Uphill With God

Read Psalm 46:1-11

God is out refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. And so we need not fear even if the world blows up, and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam; let the mountains tremble!

There is a river of joy flowing through the City of our God - the sacred home of the God above all gods. God himself is living in that City; therefore it stands unmoved despite the turmoil everywhere. He will not delay his help. The nations rant and rave in anger - but when God speaks, the earth melts in submission and kingdoms totter into ruin.

The Commander of the armies of heaven is here among us. He, the God of Jacob, has come to rescue us.

Psalm 46:1-7 (TLB)

He keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. Psalm 121:7 (TLB)

Cindy Lee lives in England. I need a walk, she thought. I must have some time outside with God. Worries were pressing down on Cindy. She lives in a valley surrounded by abundant hilly countryside. When she is facing challenges and her mind needs peace, Cindy loves walking up the hills to calm her heart and mind.

In the fresh air that day, her body and mind began to relax. As Cindy trudged uphill, her legs ached, she was thirsty, and she could hear the sound of her breathing and feel the pounding of her heart. But determination and necessity pressed her forward. The challenge was worth it because she was away from distractions, and the quietness refreshed her. From the top of the hill, surrounded by beauty, Cindy gained a different perspective. Her thoughts slowed down, and in the solitude she was reminded that whatever we face, we are never alone - our loving Father promises to watch over and guide us.

Sometimes we become exhausted when life is tough, especially when stress overwhelms us. Whatever we are going through, God is close by, offering us strength, courage, and perseverance. We experience joy and spiritual growth in our uphill walk with God.

Prayer: Loving Father, thank you for watching over us and guiding us. Give strength to those in need today, in Jesus' name. Amen.
