Restored

Read Psalm 56:1-13

But when I am afraid, I will put my confidence in you. Yes, I will trust the promises of God. And since I am trusting him, what can mere man do to me? They are always twisting what I say. All their thoughts are how to harm me. They meet together to perfect their plans; they hide beside the trail, listening for my steps; waiting to kill me. They expect to get away with it. Don't let them, Lord. In anger cast them to the ground.

You have seen me tossing and turning through the night. You have collected all my tears and preserved them in your bottle! You have recorded every one in your book.

The very day I call for help, the tide of battle turns. My enemies flee! This one thing I know: God is for me!

Psalm 56: 3-9 (TLB)

Some time ago, Evelyn G. Figueroa, from Puerto Rico, experienced several life changes. She resigned from her job to move several times because of her husband's work. During one of those moves, she was led by God to be baptized. Six months after she was baptized, her husband and Evelyn went through a hard time; her marriage was in crisis. He talked about a separation and later asked that she leave the house. At the same time this was happening, her grandmother, who had been like a mother to Evelyn during her youth, died. Two months later, her father died.

Unable to understand what was happening, Evelyn was filled with incredible suffering and her heart was broken. She fell to her knees and asked God, "Why did you take everything?" Evelyn entered a prolonged season of prayer and fasting. With anguished urgency she began to read the Bible, and the Holy Spirit led her to this passage: "Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll - are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me" (Psalm 56:8-9,NIV). An inexplicable peace washed over Evelyn. Her life, the vessel that was broken into pieces, could be made new again. God was at work sustaining, molding, and refining the fragments of her heart. This process not only restored her life but her marriage as well and filled her with God's peace.

Prayer: Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom to trust you to mold and remake us according to your will, in Jesus' name. Amen.
