God Is Good

Read Psalm 29:1-11

Berthin Sappang lives in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Since childhood she has been a good student, an active participant in church activities, and part of a well-known family in her community. Being the best and succeeding in the eyes of others was an ambition of hers - until she experienced failure.

Berthin failed the entrance exam for her dream college, despite studying hard. Good relations in her family broke down. Although she worked hard, Berthin was unable to accomplish her dream of studying abroad. Despite being known as active and smart in college, she didn't get a job that others considered good. At 27 years old, Berthin was not married, she often worried excessively about the future, and she was diagnosed with a mental disorder that often interferes with her relationships.

Experiencing these disappointments sent her into a deep depression because she felt unable and unprepared to face them. Berthin is grateful that Jesus Christ reminded her that she will always be strengthened through prayer, God's word, and the people who support her. She believes that God is sovereign and always good, no matter what her situation is. Even when she fails, God loves her and often teaches her through failure. And God's presence and love offer comfort and give her strength.

Prayer: Loving Father God, teach us to be grateful for our experiences and to believe that you are always good, no matter our circumstances, in Jesus' name. Amen.
