Framed in Worry

God is our refuge and strength, a tested help in times of trouble. And so we need not fear even if the world blows up, and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam; let the mountains tremble!

Psalms 46:1-3 (TLB)

Brenda Lee Birch, from Alberta, Canada, woke up one morning full of worries. How is my daughter-in-law managing with the children; are they sick? Can I make my meeting this afternoon? Will I have time to pickup groceries? All these concerns - and Brenda still had not risen from her bed! Her day was framed in worry.

As Brenda read her Bible, she felt her mood lighten and an optimistic spirit settle into her heart and mind. Psalm 46:1-2 says, "God is our refuge and our strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." What an unshakable peace and confidence in the face of momentous events! This psalm gives strength and courage for the coming day.

When we choose trust rather than worry, our day will be marked by confidence, assurance, and strength. The important tasks will be done, and we will finish the day satisfied. At the end of the day we will be able to lay our heads on our pillow and sleep in peace." As Psalm 4:8 assures us, "I will lie down and sleep in peace." With the help of God's word, let us frame our days not with worry but with peace.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for caring for us and give us the strength to face all of the worries each day brings. Help us to frame each day with your peace, in Jesus' name. Amen.
