A Constant Reminder
"With whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?" asks the Holy One.
Look up into the heavens! Who created all these stars? As a shepherd leads his sheep, calling each by its pet name, and counts them to see that none are lost or strayed, so God does with stars and planets!
O Jacob, O Israel, how can you say that the Lord doesn't see your troubles and isn't being fair. Don't you yet understand? Don't you know by now that the everlasting God, the Creator of the farthest parts of the earth, never grows faint or weary? No one can fathom the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak. Even the youths shall be exhausted, and the young men will all give up. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:25-31 (TLB)
When Abigail Colbow, from Ohio, was in seventh grade, she attended a confirmation class. During one of their lessons, they were challenged to find an image online that reminded them of God. The image Abigail found was an open field, colored warmly with sunlight. The picture reminded her of all the good times she had a summer church camp. Over the picture was today's quoted scripture.
Abigail decided to use the image as the background on her phone so she could see it throughout her day. It was a nice reminder to look for God in her everyday life. Even during hard times when Abigail ha doubts and wondered whether God was really there, the picture and verse continued to remind her that she is a child of God and that her faith will always be a part of her. Now she makes sure that at least one of her electronic devices has a lock screen that reminds her of God.
In hard times, it is easy to forget that God has plans for each one of us. But we can find little ways to remind ourselves that God is near.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for drawing near to us. Help us to see your work in our lives, in Jesus' name. Amen.
