3rd Sunday of Advent
Read John 1:1-14 - Jesus Christ is the true light.
The Savior - yes, the Messiah, the Lord - has been born tonight in Bethlehem! Luke 2:11 (TLB)
Aaron Caruso lives in Connecticut. When he visited New York City during the holiday season, He stopped by the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. It was over 70 feet tall and looked spectacular with thousands of lights and a bright star. Aaron was delighted by the sounds of families and friends enjoying the festivities together. Even strangers jovially greeted one another with a wave while holding hot coffee or cocoa.
Christmastime is wonderful, and Aaron enjoys it every year. But if he didn't know the true meaning of Christmas, his joy would be as temporary as the tree displayed each year at Rockefeller Center. When the holidays are over, the tree is taken away, and so are the special greetings of the season. But praise God that the good tidings of great joy given that first Christmas remain always! Aaron's happiness during the holiday season is fleeting, but his joy in Jesus is eternal.
The story of Christmas is one of salvation and redemption. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world to redeem us and to restore our relationship with God, and that story keeps Aaron awestruck all year long. Me too.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus, and for our everlasting joy in him. We pray in His name. Amen.
