Worth It

Read Joshua 1:1-9

You need only to be strong and courageous and to obey to the letter every law Moses gave you, for if you are careful to obey every one of them you will be successful in everything you do. Constantly remind the people about these laws, and you yourself must think about them every day and every night so that you will be sure to obey all of them. For only then will you succeed. yes, be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1: 7-9 (TLB)

Jewell Johnson lives in Arizona. Two bushes stood in their yard, brittle, dry, and close to dying. The weather had turned hot, and in the busyness of daily chores Jewell had failed to water them. Could they be saved or would they be victims of her neglect?

Jewell turned on the hose and allowed the water to soak the ground around the bushes twice a day for two days. There was no change. She began to think saving the bushes was impossible. But on the third day Jewell noticed the bushes seemed perkier, greener, and not so wilted. she kept watering them. Finally on the fourth day of watering, the two bushes stood tall and healthy. The extra care and watering had been worth it.

Just as the bushes in her yard need care and attention, so does Jewell's spiritual life. If she does not prioritize her spiritual growth, her spirit will suffer. Just as plants need water to thrive, her spirit needs attention day after day. Through consistent prayer, Bible study, and listening to sermons, Jewell is able to nurture a vibrant and strong faith that can flourish even in challenging circumstances.

Listen closely people! These devotions are for you but the last two days have been messages from God to me. I am bringing a message to tomorrow to the First UMC of Gulfport on the Bible. It has been amazing the number of times in the last two weeks how often I am brought to the importance of reading and obeying God's laws. I believe God is letting me know I am on the right track. I can't wait until tomorrow to see what else he has to say. Please keep me in your prayers.
