Valuable to God

Selina Machado lives in Blantyre, Malawi. She used to think that she was not valuable to God. She would think to herself: I am not as good-looking as that person. I do not have any important skills. I'm not good enough. Sometimes these thoughts started with something as simple as not being invited to an event and feeling rejected. Other times, she found herself brooding over painful words said to her or things done to her.
Meditating on today's verse from Matthew helped Selina to see how the King of kings and God of the universe feels about her. In God's eyes she is a treasure who brings delight and joy. God believes we are worth giving up everything. So as Selina thinks about Christ being born and dying on the cross, she now understands that sacrifice in light of this parable.
We understand how much something is worth by the price that has been paid. Jesus gave it all for Selina on the cross. Therefore she can no longer go on living another day feeling like she doesn't count. She is learning to look at herself and say out loud, "I am valuable!" Each of us can say the same thing as each one of us is valuable in God's eyes.
Prayer: Father, thank you for loving me and embracing me. Thank you for giving your all for me, in Jesus' name. Amen.
