The Lord is fair in everything he does, and full of kindness. He is close to all who call on him sincerely. He fulfills the desires of those who reverence and trust him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them. He protects all those who love him, but destroys the wicked.
I will praise the Lord and call on all men everywhere to bless his holy name forever and forever.
Psalm 145: 17-21 (TLB)
Amy Culwell lives in Alabama. About a week after she returned from maternity leave, her job was unexpected eliminated. Amy was shocked, hurt, and anxious about how she and her husband would make ends meet. They were just learning how to be parents of a new baby. How were they supposed to handle this?
Amy went grocery shopping the next day with a heavy heart, still wondering about the future. She saw a woman about her age who looked familiar. Asking her name, Amy realized that she was the nurse who helped her through the toughest part of her recent labor. She was a kind and patient caregiver, and Amy had wanted her to meet her daughter. But her shift ended before she had the chance. This had always made Amy a little sad. Three months later - in the middle of a grocery store - they finally had the chance to meet.
This was the sweetest moment that the Lord could have given her that day. Amy was scared, and God had felt far away. In that moment, Amy realized that God heard her prayers and listened closely. Our Creator is always present and always lovingly cares for us, even when our situation feels troubled. Sometimes God speaks to us when we least expect it.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to remember your goodness and faithfulness always. May we lean on you in times of distress, knowing that you hear our cries, in Jesus' name. Amen.
