True Source

So ever since we first heard about you we have kept on praying and asking God to help you understand what he wants you to do; asking him to make you wise about spiritual things; and asking that the way you live will always please the Lord and honor him, so that you will always be doing good, kind things for others, while all the time you are learning to know God better and better.

We are praying, too, that you will be filled with his mighty, glorious strength so that you can keep going no matter what happens - always full of the joy of the Lord, and always thankful to the Father who has made us fit to share all the wonderful things that belong to those who live in the Kingdom of light. For he has rescued us out of the darkness and gloom of Satan's kingdom and brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who bought our freedom with his blood and forgave us all our sins. Colossians 1: 9-14 (TLB)

....for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.

Philippians 4:13 (TLB)

Janice Davin lives in North Carolina. She took her mischievous Sheltie puppy, Misty, to obedience school to learn good manners. The dog trainer produced an astonishing change. The trainer's calm, kind demeanor impressed Janice, although she did not immediately understand why.

Sometime later while Janice was in the hospital for shoulder surgery; she called the trainer and asked him to board Misty. When he brought Misty home, he told Janice that he had visited her neighbors to ask if they would be willing to help her and had collected their contact information. Before he left, he gave Janice a copy of The Upper Room, explaining that his family read the devotional every day. Janice asked for his favorite Bible verse. Without hesitation, he said, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me." Suddenly Janice understood that faith was the source of his compassion.

The kindness of this dog trainer touched Janice deeply. His example of holiness is within reach of all of us. Wherever we are, we can bear witness to God's loving-kindness and reveal God's good news through small gestures done with great love.

Prayer: Loving Father, make us aware of your presence so that we may bear witness to your love in all that we do, in Jesus' name. Amen.
