Read Genesis 37:1-11 - Joseph dreams of greatness
We want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end. Hebrews 6:11 (NRSV)
Henry L. Childress is from Arkansas. As he reflects on the days of lifting weights in his youth, Henry remembers how much he hated changing the amount of weight on the bar between lifts. Sometimes the transition between sets took longer than the lifts themselves. But now that Henry looks back, he can see that the transitions had just as much to do with strengthening his body as the lifts did. Each time he pulled the weights off the bar and replaced them with new ones, his hands became tougher and stronger. Every time he twisted and turned with those heavy weights, his abs and obliques were getting toned. Every lift, push, pull, and twist during the transition benefited him in the long run.
Throughout the Bible, we also see times of transition. For example, when Joseph had the dream of his brothers bowing down to him, he was not given a royal position the next day. His time of transition lasted many years. But he needed that time to truly interpret his dreams and learn what it meant to be a good leader. Transitions in life are important - they are God's way of preparing us for what is ahead.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to see that the space between where we are and where we are going is necessary. May the transition make us stronger, wiser, and closer to you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
