Through The Waves
Read Luke 8: 4-15 The story of the sowing of the seed
"This is its meaning: The seed is God's message to men. The hard path where some seed fell represents the hard hearts of those who hear the words of God, but then the devil comes and steals the words away and prevents people from believing and being saved. The stony ground represents those who enjoy listening to sermons, but somehow the message never really gets through to them and doesn't take root and grow. They know the message is true, and sort of believe for awhile; but when the hot winds of persecution blow, they lose interest. The seed among the thorns represent those who listen and believes God's words but whose faith afterwards is choked out by worry and riches and the responsibilities and pleasures of life. And so they are never able to help anyone else to believe the Good News.
"But the good soil represents honest, good-hearted people. They listen to God's words and cling to them and steadily spread them to others who also believe." Luke 8: 11-15 (TLB)
Kaycee Reardon is from West Virginia. She was at the beach admiring God's beautiful creation. Wading into the water, Kaycee was being tossed around by rough ocean waves. She kept falling down and going under. It was quite funny, actually. Kaycee decided to go deeper in the water where the waves were easier to take and she wouldn't get knocked down.
Kaycee compared this experience to her relationship with God. When she grew deeper and closer to God, Kaycee could take on life's waves more easily. She didn't get knocked down by every challenge that came her way.
Deeper into the water, she could stand up and face the waves with boldness. When she dove deeper into scripture, God made her burdens easier to carry. Kaycee is learning every day to find joy in the waves and allow God to carry the weight.
God waits for us to take the first step deeper into the waters. Sometimes our challenges may be too hard to take on by ourselves. But God is by our side wherever we go. We don't have to carry the weight alone.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to grow closer to you and to trust that you will help carry any burden life brings us, in Jesus' name. Amen.
