The Best Gift
Children, obey your parents; this is the right thing to do because God has placed them in authority over you. Honor your father and mother. this is the first of God's Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing.
And now a word to you parents. Don't keep on scolding and nagging your children, making them angry and resentful. Rather, bring them up with the loving discipline the Lord himself approves, with suggestions and godly advice.
Ephesians 6:1-4 (TLB)
Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older he will remain upon it. Proverbs 22:6 (TLB)
Onyema Ndubuisi lives in Abia, Nigeria. Her father was devoted to God. He taught her how to pray, to evangelize, and to have discipline. Onyema is grateful for the ways God used her dad as a vessel to help her in her Christian life. Now that her dad is gone, Onyema has been following in his footsteps and honoring the legacy he left for her by the grace of God.
Over the years, Onyema has been evangelizing and disciplining her life each day to the glory of our Savior Jesus Christ. The time she spends praying, evangelizing, reading The Upper Room daily devotions, and studying the word of God blesses her life. This time also leads her to better understand God's will, purpose, and instructions for her life. No matter what challenges or predicaments she faces, she can find solace in God.
What an amazing gift it is for a parent to train his child in the ways of God! This instruction will order the path and brighten the talents, vision, and future of a child - and God is pleased.
Prayer: Dear God, grant us the wisdom to train our children in your ways, in Jesus' name. Amen.
