For Jehovah is my refuge! I choose the God above all gods to shelter me. How then can evil overtake me or any plague come near? For he orders his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will steady you with their hands to keep you from stumbling against the rocks on the trail. You can safely meet a lion or step on poisonous snakes, yes, even trample them beneath your feet!

For the Lord says, "Because he loves me, I will rescue him; I will make him great because he trusts in my name. When he calls on me I will answer; I will be with him in trouble, and rescue him and honor him. I will satisfy him with a full life and give him my salvation." Psalms 91: 9-18 (TLB)

Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10 (TLB)

John R. Robinson is from Georgia. He stood, with his wife, on the balcony facing the Atlantic Ocean as the roaring wind rattled the palm fronds and large foamy waves crashed on the sand. They had to brace themselves to keep their balance. They quickly went indoors, their eyes burning from the wind and their skin chilled from the driving rain. The next morning, bright azure skies greeted a glorious sunrise. Small waves lapped at the beach, palm trees fluttered, and all was peaceful.

Life can be much the same way. The tempests of serious illness, anxiety, job changes, marital difficulties, relationship challenges, business setbacks, and other storms of life threaten our sense of well-being. Our faith may even falter. But throughout the turmoil, God is always with us as promised in Isaiah. And our hearts and minds can find rest and peace once more.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, be with us this day, in tempests and in calm. Comfort us with the knowledge that you are always near. We pray in your holy name, amen.
