Take Every Opportunity
Read 1 Corinthians 13: 1-11 "the love chapter"
Look up into the Heavens! Who created all these stars? As a shepherd leads his sheep, calling each by its pet name, and counts them to see that none are lost or strayed, so God does with the stars and planets! Isaiah 40:26 (TLB)
David D. Felty is from Indiana. When he was a boy he would run along the railroad tracks and look up into the star-filled sky. He would jump with out-stretched arms, shout, "Up, up, and away!" and wish to soar into the heavens like Superman among the bright stars. He wondered, Who created all the stars? As David grew older, he came to know that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it.
As a child, he admired Superman, but later in life David grew to admire a man that he observed at community and church functions. He would pick up others' empty plates and cups and carry them to the kitchen. He would help wash dishes, clean the tables, and sweep the floors. If anyone needed anything, he would do his best to meet their need. David began to try to be more like him.
David put away his childish thoughts of being like Superman and started his adult life by taking every opportunity to serve people. He discovered that we do not need to look far to find opportunities to serve others and thus serve God.
Prayer: Dear Father, help us to serve others through faith, hope, and love. Always remind us that every act of service, no matter how small, is important to you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
