Smoothing Out

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; and there is no conflict with Jewish laws.

Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there.

If we are living now by the Holy Spirit's power, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. Then we won't need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings. Galatians 5: 22-26 (TLB)

When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more. a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (TLB)

One day Christine Hay, from Scotland, decided to turn her small pieces of leftover soap bars into one big bar of soap that would be usable. She cut the pieces smaller and melted them down, and then she worked to mold the soap into a usable shape. Eventually it seemed to be nice and round, but after letting it dry for 24 hours, many lumps and bumps became visible. However, as Christine uses the soap, the bumps are slowly smoothing out, and the soap is becoming more rounded and easier too use.

This reminds Christine of how the Holy spirit works within her, a flawed human being. Very patiently the Holy Spirit works to smooth out all the parts of her that are not glorifying to God - a lifelong process that ensures that she continues to serve God in meaningful ways.

Sometimes this process can be painful or drawn out, but she knows that God knows what is best. Christine only has to be willing to let the Holy Spirit shape her to be more like Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Loving God, help us to embrace your shaping of us so that we can show your love, patience, and long-suffering to others, in Jesus' name. Amen.
