Setting the Tone
Read James 2:14-26
Irene Robinson is from Gauteng, South Africa. During her teen years, she was looking for meaning in life. She had recently moved from a small town to a big city, and she didn't know many people. Irene started attending a church where she met a woman almost 50 years her senior. She invited Irene to dinner and showed her how to become a believer in Jesus Christ. For the next three years, she and her husband made Irene a part of their family. She enjoyed many meals and activities with them, cared for their house when they went on holiday, and took trips with them. During that time Irene was also part of a weekly Bible study group for young adults.
Those first three years of her Christian life set the tone for how Irene would live out her Christian faith. Eventually she had to leave that church to attend school in another town. Irene asked her dear friend, "How can I ever thank you for all you have done for me?" She answered, "Do it for someone else." And that's what Irene has sought to do.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us not only to tell others about our faith but also to show them what it looks like, in Jesus' name. Amen.
