Seeing Past the Obstacles
If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgement and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don't ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Proverbs 3:4-6 (TLB)
We live by faith, not by sight. 2Corththians 5:7 (NIV)
Monabeth Milliron lives in Louisiana. Early one evening her friend Sherry phoned, telling Monabeth to go outside and look at the sunset. She described how beautiful the colors were and how the sky was a brilliant pink surrounding the setting sun. Monabeth eagerly went outside to look, but to her disappointment, her view was totally blocked by the trees. However, even though she couldn't see it, from her friend's vivid description and Monabeth's past experiences of enjoying beautiful sunsets she could imagine how brilliant the sky looked.
So often it is the same for Monabeth as she tries to live faithfully each day. When she is going through trials, it can be hard to see God at work in the situation. Her eyes can be so focused on her need that she can not see an answer or the way through her struggles. But reading God's promises in scripture and her past experiences of seeing God's work in her life reassured her that God is present, even though she cannot see past the obstructions that are blocking her view. As we recall God's blessings and answers to our prayers in the past, we can trust and envision that God is at work in our lives right now.
Prayer: Creator God, help us to remember your answers to prayers and trust that you are at work in our lives right now, in Jesus' name, amen.
