Reminders of God
The heavens are telling the glory of God; they are a marvelous display of his craftsmanship. Day and night they keep on telling about God. Without a sound or word, silent in the skies, their message reaches out to all the world. The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it and moves out across the skies as radiant as a bridegroom going to his wedding, or as joyous as an athlete looking forward to a race! The sun crosses the heavens from end to end, and nothing can hide from its heat.
God's laws are perfect. They protect us, make us wise, and give us joy and light. God's laws are pure, eternal, just.
Psalm 19:1-9 (TLB)
Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven, for his lovingkindness continues forever. Psalm 136:26 (TLB) Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven, for his lovingkindness continues forever. Psalm 136:26 (TLB)
Meg Mangan is from New South Wales, Australia. Like many families, Meg's home has many photos scattered throughout their house. Most of the time they become an unnoticed part of the background. But every now and then Meg stops to appreciate them. They remind her of happy times and of the life stages that their children and grandchildren have passed through. Some of the photos are of special occasions like weddings or a first day of school; some were posed, and others were taken on the go. Each one is special.
Photos can stir memories and can be appreciated again and again, and they can even be shared with friends who visit. Their photos remind Meg of the smiles, mannerisms, special qualities, and kindness of family members who no longer live nearby or who have died. It is a joy to remember those loved ones when she see her photos.
Like the photos around her house, reminders of God are scattered around me too, though she often fails to notice. Meg can see God's beauty and bounty when she wanders around her garden. She can catch glimpses of God's love when she is with friends. And the Bible tells Meg how much God loves her and wants her to love God in return. May we always appreciate the nearness and love of God and share that love with others.
Prayer: Loving Father, thank you for the many glimpses of you that we can find every day. Help us share your love with others, in Jesus name, amen.
