Putting God First

Read Matthew 6:25-34

"So don't worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.

"So don't be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time."

Matthew 6: 31-34 (TLB)

Aya Bianca Into lives in Davao del Norte, Philippines. Exams, scholarship requirements, extracurricular activities - this summed up Aya's everyday life during her freshman year of college. The first few months went well. But Aya was part of a music organization that requires several hours of practice every week - even on holidays. As time passed, she became exhausted with her routine. Aya started to worry that she might fail her exams and lose her scholarship.

One evening Aya felt God speaking to her, telling her to put God first on her to-do list each day and trust that her busy schedule and other concerns would be taken care of. So she committed to spend time praying and reading scripture every morning. As exam day approached, Aya saw how spending time with God regularly was helping her to put things in order - her studies, her time, and her daily tasks.

When her exam results came in, Aya was excited to see a near perfect score. Truly God is faithful to the promise that if we put God first, God will take care of our daily needs. Time spent with God will never be in vain.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for taking care of our daily needs. Help us to spend time with you even on busy days, in Jesus' name. Amen.
