Read 2 Corinthians 9: 6-15
But remember this - if you give little, you will get little. A farmer who plants just a few seeds will only get a small crop, but if he plants much, he will reap much. Every one must make up his own mind as to how much he should give. Don't force anyone to give more then he really wants to, for cheerful givers are the ones God prizes. God is able to make it up to you by giving you everything you need and more, so that there will not only be enough for your own needs, but plenty left over to give joyfully to others. It is as the Scriptures say: "The godly man gives generously to the poor. His good deeds will be an honor to him forever." 2 Corinthians 9: 6-9 (TLB)
When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord - and he pays wonderful interest on your loan! Proverbs 19:17 (TLB)
Enid Adah Nyinomujuni lives in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Enid first met Mzee in a hotel. His eyes were sunken, his back was bent, and he was walking with the support of a stick. Enid was moved with compassion as she watched him ordered a cup of tea. Later on, she inquired as to who he was and where he lived. A young man took Enid to Mzee's home, and she could not believe what she saw. He was sitting alone in front of his house. The roof and the walls had holes large enough for a person to fit through. Enid learned that his wife and relatives had deserted him, leaving him to struggle to provide for himself in his old age. Around his house, Enid could see the small gardens he cultivated. She decided to offer him food each week, even though she doesn't have much herself.
The seed Enid has been sowing may seem small, but it is helping Mzee. For this Enid is glad, and recently she has seen God providing for her in a similar way. When a friend came to stay for two weeks, she gave Enid money to buy groceries and helped her pay for other things as well. Before she left, she asked if she could continue to send Enid money for groceries. Just as God prompted her to help Mzee, Enid believes that through her friend, God is helping her.
Prayer: Dear God, help us to be willing to share what you have given us with those who have less, in Jesus' name. Amen.
