Promise of Peace
Read 2 Corinthians 9;6-11 Cheerful giving
If you do this you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (TLB)
Elizabeth Erlandson is from Nebraska. Since her husband, Doug, became ill a few years ago, they've curtailed many of their activities, including driving in the snow. When it snows on a Sunday, they have a home worship service together. Doug plays the piano, they take turns reading scripture, and they listen to a sermon online.
One Sunday, Elizabeth couldn't concentrate on their worship. Snow had fallen fast during the night, and she was worried about clearing the driveway. She peeked out the window and saw two neighbor boys clearing the driveway. What an answer to their need! Since then the boys have shoveled for them whenever it snows.
Philippians 4:6 tells us not to be anxious, but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving. This command comes with a promise, the peace of God. Elizabeth is not sure she prayed about shoveling the snow that day. But since then, whenever she faces a new challenge, she prays, "Lord, you know we need___________. Thank you for your provision." Answers don't always come in the she expects. sometimes God shows her how she can handle the task. Other times God sends someone to help. No matter the situation, God provides.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us trust that you will provide what we need. Banish anxiety from our hearts, and fill us with peace, in Jesus' name. Amen.
