Power to Provide
How grateful I am and how I praise the Lord that you are helping me again. I know you have always been anxious to send what you could, but for a while you didn't have the chance. Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me strength and power. But even so, you have done right in helping me in my present difficulty. Philippians 4:10-14 (TLB)
And it is he who will supply all your needs from his riches in glory, because of what Christ Jesus has done for us. Philippians 4:19 (TLB)
Kellie Heisler is from New Jersey. It was a cold, snowy winter. Her three children and Kellie were down to soda crackers and ketchup in their cupboard. Her husband had moved out and was not providing food for the household. One evening in prayer Kellie told God that they had nothing to eat. Then she got her children bathed and ready for dinner, trusting and believing in God's power to provide. Before she had finished setting the table, there came a knock at the door. A friend from their church had brought several bags of groceries for them.
Her friend mentioned that their local grocery store had a "buy one, get two free" sale. She had brought the "free" items to them and added even more. She said, "The Holy Spirit instructed me to bring this to you." Overwhelmed with joy, Kellie thanked God for meeting their need.
The blessing did not end there. Her sister in Christ prepared a full meal, with desert, for her family and Kellie's. They were blessed with dinner and wonderful company. That experience reminded Kellie of the truth that God can provide for our needs. Her cupboards and her heart were full.
What an example of faith! Would you have the faith to prepare for a meal with no food in the house and not knowing where food would come from? Maybe we don't get the answers we want because we don't have the faith and belief that God will truly provide for us.
Prayer: Gracious God, send Your Holy Spirit to those who are suffering, and help us to meet every need according to your riches in glory. Help us to truly believe and not doubt Your goodness, in Jesus' name, amen
