"So my counsel is: Don't worry about things - food, drink, clothes. For you already have life and a body - and they are far more important than what to eat and wear. Look at the birds! They don't worry about what to eat - they don't need to sow or reap or store up food - for your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are. Will all your worries add a single moment to your life?
"And why worry about your clothes? Look at the field lilies! They don't worry about theirs. Yet King Solomon in all his glory was not clothes as beautifully as they. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won't he more surely care for you, O men of little faith.
"So don't worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.
"So don't be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time."
Matthew 6:25-34 (TLB)
Trevor Turco lives in Texas. Between being a full-time student, training for a sports season, flying airplanes, and all of the studying that goes along with those tasks, Trevor's daily schedule often drains his energy and leaves him feeling overwhelmed. He often looses track of time and forgets to make space in his day for God.
His situation is not unique. All across the world, people must complete tasks in order to fulfill expectations, personal goals, or work. It can be easy to become overly focused on our current situation and lose sight of the big picture. However, God has a purpose for us all, and a God that great deserves our attention.
When we make a priority in our lives, live according to God's guidance, and switch our focus to what God has planned for us rather than our daily tasks, our burdens become lighter and we can find comfort and rest in the promises of God. Since God provides for even the smallest of animals, we can have faith that God will provide for us.
Prayer: Dear God, give us strength to focus on your will rather than our own. Thank you for the blessings you have given us. Help us to use them to carry out your will, in Jesus' name. Amen.
