Patiently Trusting

Read Colossians 3:12-17

Most of all, let love guide your life, for then the whole church will stay together in perfect harmony. Let the peace of heart which comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives, for this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body. And always be thankful. Colossians 3:14-15 (TLB)

Finishing is better than starting! Patience is better than pride! Ecclesiastes 7:8 (TLB)

Glynis M. Belec lives in Ontario, Canada. Renovating a house can be fun, but it can also be a test of patience. Glynis's husband is an experienced carpenter, so he is able to do most of the work. Glynis is not a professional decorator, but she knows what she wants. Sometimes friction arises between them when her husband has a vision in his head, and she has a picture scribbled on paper. He tries his best to create what she wants. Sometimes as Glynis observes the process, she wonders if he really understands her vision. But if she waits long enough, her husband does get it right. Although it can be a challenge, Glynis is learning to trust more and control less.

"Trust more and be patient" is probably a good approach for other areas of her life as well. Glynis still makes foolish choices, and sometimes her decisions are not exactly what God would want her to do. But God is patient and kind. And God loves and forgives Glynis. She has discovered that if she trust that God is in control, it's easier to be more patient. When she does that, God has this remarkable way of bringing all things to fruition.

Prayer: Dear God, you know our weaknesses and our eagerness to get things done. Teach us to have patience and to trust you in all areas of our lives, in Jesus' name. Amen.
