Over 150 Names

Is anyone among you suffering? He should keep on praying about it. and those who have reason to be thankful should continually be singing praises to the Lord.

Is anyone sick? He should call for the elders of the church and they should pray over him and pour a little oil upon him, calling on the Lord to heal him. And their prayer, if offered in faith, will heal him, for the Lord will make him well; and if his sickness was caused by some sin, the Lord will forgive him.

Admit your faults to one another and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous man has great power and wonderful results. James 5: 13-16 (TLB)

Jesus said, "I have pleaded in prayer for you that your faith should not completely fail." Luke 22:32 (TLB)

Some years ago after retiring as a pastor, Gerald H. Ihle, from Pennsylvania, started to make a list of people to pray for. He couldn't remember the increasing number of names he was concerned about, so he used his computer to record the names - to refresh his memory. He found that new names needed to be added constantly, and that the names of those who had recovered could be removed after a prayer of thanksgiving. Finally, he ended up with an active list of over 150 names, which he still updates regularly.

Gerald carries his list with him all the time. When he wakes up during the night, he spends time praying for those whose circumstances seem to be a priority. With his list close at hand, he can pray for people at any time of day. And Gerald has found that praying for other people who need God's healing helps to take his mind off his own concerns. Sometimes he tells people, "You're on my prayer list." And often they seem strengthened just knowing someone is praying for them.

Who could benefit from your prayers? Remember, Jesus told us, "I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son" (Jn. 14:13).

Prayer: Thank you, God, for hearing our prayers. We pray always in the blessed name of your dear Son, Jesus. Amen.
