For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Romans 10: 13-15 (NRSV)
Jennifer Brigandi lives in Ontario, Canada. She is an extrovert, but she finds it intimidating to talk openly about Christ and following him. She feels at a loss for words, nervous of how her message will be received, and worried that she won't have answers to tough questions. Most people she knows who openly speak of Christian faith can easily quote Bible verses for any occasion, have read mountains of Christian literature, and never seem to stumble answering any question. That is not Jennifer. She feels unprepared and too new in her own faith to tell others about following Jesus.
But then she felt a prompting to "just start talking." That nudge quickly became one she could not ignore. She prayed for guidance and courage, and God answered with today's quoted verse. Jennifer realized that the Lord knows we will never have all the answers. Yet we still are directed to spread the message of God's love.
Over the weeks that followed, Jennifer spoke with many of her non-Christian friends about her faith. Most of her friends listened, a few asked questions, and one came to church with her. The more she talked about Jesus, the easier it became. She just needed to listen and follow God's guidance. That is good advice for each of us.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give us opportunities to tell others about your greatness and love, in Jesus' name, amen
