Opportunity to Bless
These words of Peter's moved them deeply, and they said to him and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"
And Peter replied, "Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit. For Christ promised him to each one of you who has been called by the Lord our God, and to your children and even to those in distant lands!"
Then Peter preached a long sermon, telling about Jesus and strongly urging all his listeners to save themselves from the evils of their nation. And those who believed Peter were baptized - about 3,000 in all. Acts 2:37-41 (TLB)
Linawati Santoso lives in East Java, Indonesia. "Thank you, Sister. I'm bless with your sermon," said her friend. Linawati had been given the opportunity to preach a sermon in their prayer meeting. Although she had prepared, she was still nervous. On the day of the prayer meeting Linawati was unwell, and shortly after delivering the sermon she felt sad. She said to God, "I'm sorry, Lord. I'm not good at delivering your words." But hearing her friend's opinion refreshed her soul.
Linawati was reminded of Peter. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter talked about Jesus, and his message transformed people's hearts. They were blessed. Many of them were baptized, and about three thousand were added as believers. Even though Peter had not intended to preach that day, God worked through his message and Peter was a blessing for many people. Like Peter, so was Linawati! Even though only one friend told her that he had been blessed, Linawati was still very encouraged. Linawati thanks God for giving her that opportunity and for the many other opportunities God has opened up for her to be a blessing to others.
I also would like to thank God for the many opportunities He has given me to serve in various ways; the last being able to deliver a message on how our "stuff" sometimes takes priority over God, when He should be first!
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the opportunity to bless others. Give us the courage to act on those opportunities, in Jesus' name. Amen.
