Opportunities Everywhere

Don't be weary in prayer; keep at it; watch for God's answers and remember to be thankful when they come. Don't forget to pray us too, that God will give us many chances to preach the Good News of Christ for which I am here in jail. Pray that I will be bold enough to tell it freely and fully, and make it plain, as, of course, I should.

Make the most of your chances to tell others the Good News. Be wise in all your contacts with them. Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone. Colossians 4:2-6 (TLB)

Lorraine Baldus lives in Michigan. After the worship service on Sunday, a young woman behind Lorraine tapped her shoulder. She told Lorraine she was visiting our church and that throughout the service, she sensed God telling her tat the woman in front of her would pray with her. Lorraine was not going to let this opportunity pass her by. The young woman told Lorraine of her need, and they held hands and prayed.

Praying with and for people is one way to reach others for Christ, but it's not the only way. Maybe a local food bank is in need of donations. Perhaps someone you know just returned home from the hospital and could use a meal or two. A new family may have moved in to the neighborhood, and a warm welcome could help them feel at home. Opportunities to show God's love are all around us - we just need to be attuned to them.

Lorraine still periodically prays for the woman from the church and her request. It would be nice to know how that prayer may be answered, but Lorraine doesn't really need to know. She does know that when we reach out to others with God's love, God will handle the rest. In the meantime, we can be alert and "make the most of every opportunity" that God places in our path.

Prayer: Dear Lord, as we enter this new year, help us to be aware of the opportunities you place before us. Please give us the courage to respond and share your love, in Jesus' name, amen.
