Never Alone

Let me say first of all that wherever I go I hear you being talked about! For your faith in God is becoming known around the world. How I thank God through Jesus Christ for this good report, and for each one of you. God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to the one I serve with all might, telling others the Good News about his Son.

And one of the things I keep on praying for is the opportunity, God willing, to come at last to see you and, if possible, that I will have a safe trip. For I long to visit you so I can impart to you the faith that will help your church grow strong in the Lord. Then, too, I need your help. for I want not only to share my faith with you but to be encouraged by yours: Each of us will be a blessing to the other. Romans 1:8-12 (TLB)

And we are sure of this, that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. 1 John 5:14 (TLB)

As Nanci Lamar, from Tennessee, sat in the pew for worship service. she thought about how disconnected she felt. Her daughter is grown and now makes her home in another state, so Nanci now goes to church by herself. The connections they made together during her school years have faded, leaving Nanci feeling isolated.

Perhaps her thoughts were an unspoken prayer, because just as the service ended, a woman sitting near Nanci greeted her and reminded her that Nanci had met her at her place of business years before. If ever there was an answer to a prayer, that simple greeting felt like one. Nanci left feeling grateful and a bit less lonely.

Nanci knows that God answers prayers; while she wasn't consciously praying about her loneliness, God answered her need. Often she has felt that her problems are too insignificant to bother God with, but this encounter reminded Nanci that God does care about even the smallest problems we face and will intervene in our lives when we need it.

This one of the reasons we take time to greet each other on Sunday mornings. You never know who just might need that warm greeting and virtual hug.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for answering our prayers in unexpected ways. May we be the answer to someone's prayer today, in Jesus' name. Amen.
