Jesus said to his disciples: "and be sure of this - that I am with you always, even to the end of the world." Matthew 28:20 (TLB)
DeVonna R. Allison lives in Florida. When she took her two-year-old grandson Samuel to a preschool playgroup for the first time, he loved it! Samuel was enjoying himself until he suddenly realized he could not see his grandmother. He ran to the center of the room with a look of panic on his face as he scanned the room, searching. DeVonna called to him, but in the busyness of the room, he couldn't find her. Anxiously, Samuel called out, "Grandma!" Immediately DeVonna went up and hugged him, reassuring him that she hadn't left him. Comforted, Samuel was soon off playing happily again.
Later as DeVonna reflected on Samuel's moment of panic, she realized that she also gets overwhelmed at times. She can be too distracted by circumstances to recognize God's presence. In those moments she looks around wondering where God is, when in reality God is right there with her. When Jesus gave the disciples the Great Commission, he also reassured them saying, "remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." That promise holds true for us today. What a comfort it is to know that no matter what happens or how bleak life may seem, we are safe under the Lord's care.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for never leaving us alone. Help us to remember that you are always with us, especially when life feels scary, in Jesus' name. Amen.
