My True Identity
So if you have been raised with Christ; seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.
Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV)
Emily Morren lives in Texas. One of her biggest struggles in her teenage years was comparing herself to others and trying to meet the world's standards for beauty, knowledge, and skill. Emily thought her identity was in her looks, what others thought of her, how many friends she had, and her achievements.
It is easy to fall into a cycle of comparison and insecurity. But as Emily got older and grew in her faith, she realized that these worldly standards don't have eternal meaning. Being brought up in a Christ-entered atmosphere, she was constantly reminded that as God's daughter, she doesn't need to try to be anyone else. She is amazing as she is.
Emily is now entering a new chapter of her life and beginning college. She still struggles with comparing herself to others and worrying about what people think of her, but she reminds herself that it only matters what God thinks of her. Growing in her relationship with Jesus Christ and sharing Christ's love with others is what truly matters.
Prayer: Dear God, help each of us to find our identity in you and keep our minds focused on eternal things, in Jesus' name. Amen.
