More Than We asked
So, dear brothers, you have no obligations whatever to your old sinful nature to do what it begs you to do. For if you keep on following it you are lost and will perish, but if through the power of the Holy Spirit you crush it and its evil deeds, you shall live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
And so we should not be like cringing, fearful slaves, but we should behave like God's very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family, and calling to him, "Father, Father." For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts, and tells us that we really are his children. And since we are his children, we will share his treasures - for all God gives to his Son Jesus is now ours too. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:12-17 (TLB)
Darlene Forgues lives in Alberta, Canada. Prostate cancer had metastasized to the bones throughout her husband's body. The next morning, Darlene's first thought was, Earle is dying, and nothing is ever going to be all right again. Decades of dealing with her own diagnosis of bipolar disorder had left her helpless in the world of computers, banking, investments, home and car maintenance, and lawn care. Earle had dealt with all these as well as doing most of the driving. Since Darlene had concentrated all her efforts on fighting her way out of the pit of mental illness, she had no self-confidence. She fell to her knees and asked for the help that only God can give.
God gave Darlene strength as she started to learn all the responsibilities that she might soon have to deal with on her own - banking, making appointments, driving Earle and herself, downsizing as they moved into a smaller home. Then, after God was faithful in getting rid of her fears and giving her the ability to cope, Earle began to respond well to the cancer treatments. Though not in remission, Earl's cancer is controlled.
Now able to do many things that had seemed beyond her capabilities before, Darlene is sharing with Earle the abundant life Jesus promised to us if we would trust in him. I hope whatever situation you are in today, you will put your trust in our loving God and Father to see you thru. He is faithful and will provide for all your needs.
Prayer: Faithful God, we rejoice in your goodness. Thank you for physical healing and for spiritual healing only You can provide. Help us to trust You in every situation, in Jesus' name, amen.
