Love One Another
Read Colossians 3: 12-17
Since you have been chosen by God who has given you this new kind of life, and because of his deep love and concern for you, you should practice tenderhearted mercy and kindness to others, Don't worry about making a good impression on them but be ready to suffer quietly and patiently. Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:12-13 (TLB)
Arlene Rains Graber lives in Kansas. Her day started with hurt and irritation from a friend's critical remarks. While she ran errands her anger grew, and Arlene began to develop a grudge. The grocery store parking lot was full, but Arlene spotted an open space one lane over. She sped up and rounded the corner to grab it but then saw a car approaching with its blinker flashing. She scowled as she waited for the other driver to park. But to her surprise, the man stopped and waved her into the parking spot. Arlene was grateful but unmoved by the gesture.
Arlene raced through the store and found herself behind the same man in the check-out lane. He turned, smiled, and began emptying her cart for Arlene while the cashier scanned his items. Arlene stood amazed. She returned the smile and thanked him for both good deeds. He shrugged and said, "It doesn't cost anything to be nice." Arlene cringed and felt her face go red as she remembered Jesus' command: "Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another" (John 13:34). Arlene realized she was angry over something trivial, and a sudden rush of gratitude swept over her. She is thankful for the man whose acts of kindness had an impact on her attitude.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to focus on being kind when things don't go our way. May we always remember to love one another no matter what the circumstances, in Jesus' name. Amen.
