Every young man who listens to me and obeys my instructions will be given wisdom and good sense. Yes, if you want better insight and discernment, and are searching for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure, then wisdom will be given you, and knowledge of God himself; you will soon learn the importance of reverence for the Lord and of trusting him.
For the Lord grants wisdom! His every word is a treasure of knowledge and understanding. He grants good sense to the godly - his saints. He is their shield, protecting them and guarding their pathway. Proverbs 2: 1-8 (TLB)
The man who knows right from wrong and has good judgment and common sense is happier than the man who is immensely rich! Proverbs 3: 13 (TLB)
Geo Pickell is from North Dakota. Having low vision sometimes hinders Geo, but it also forces him to look more closely at things. Since Geo can't always trust his depth perception, he occasionally relies on touch to navigate. One evening at a church prayer meeting, he was making his way along the wall behind the altar. The wall has a large cross painted on it, and the cross was right beside him. Out of the corner of his eye, Geo noticed a tiny line of delicate gold script hidden along the dark brown vertical edge of the cross. Upon further investigation, Geo found that it was inscribed, "Jesus Christ is forever Lord of lords and King of kings." Geo pointed out his discovery to the others at the prayer meeting, and each of them admitted that they had never noticed the inscription. We concluded that the phrase was put there by an artist who understood that like many of God's marvelous truths, it would only be discovered by a close examination.
Following that experience, Geo decided that he needed to become much more diligent in his study of God's word and in his prayer life. Wisdom and understanding are available to all, but those who look closely will find deeper beauty.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us scripture. As we read it, help us to slow down and look for the beauty and truth in ever verse, in Jesus' name. Amen.
