Living Proof

Read Psalm 42

Jesus replied, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38 (TLB)

It only takes a few minutes on social media to notice that many people present a picture of their lives as filled with only happiness and fun. But our relationship with God requires honesty about our disappointment and pain as well as our joy.

For Brian Valdez, from Pennsylvania, there is no greater disappointment than his disability. Most people would say that he has adapted well to not being able to walk; but inside Brian is still sad. Through much prayer, the Holy Spirit revealed to Brian that he had hidden his resentment so deep within his heart that he didn't even realize it was there. Letting God into that dark place meant having to admit that he was angry at God for this happening to him in the first place. Coming to grips with the truth was the key to his healing.

Through the light of God's love, the Holy Spirit gradually changed Brian's perspective. He began to see how blessed he is to be able to walk on crutches! His new mission is to use his body, just as it is, for God's glory.

It's scary to reveal your whole heart to God. But if you take that leap, God can magnify the good and heal the hurt. Brian promises. He is living proof.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to love you with our whole heart and to share everything we feel and experience with you, in Jesus' name. Amen.
