Living by Faith
I love the Lord because he hears my prayers and answers them. Because he bends down and listens. I will pray as long as I breath!
Death stared me in the face - I was frightened and sad. Then I cried, "Lord, save me!" How kind he is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! The Lord protect the simple and the childlike; I was facing death and then he saved me. Now I can relax. For the Lord has done this wonderful miracle for me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. I shall live! Yes, in his presence - here on earth! Psalm 116:1-9 (TLB)
Rachael Pittiglio lives in Michigan. Two years ago, her life appeared to be in perfect order. Her relationship, finances, education, and career all seemed to be succeeding. Around that time, Rachael copied down Psalm 116:7 and hung it in her kitchen. When she looked at that verse, she felt inspired to give thanks. It was easy to give thanks when she didn't have any major problems, but she also asked God to increase her faith so that she could be grateful even if circumstances changed.
Rachael believes the Holy Spirit inspired those prayers for faithfulness because her apparent success evaporated. She lost her job. Her hopes for a relationship fell through, and she found herself grieving and feeling forgotten. Everyone around her seemed to be achieving their dreams while hers had taken several giant steps back. But every time she looked at Psalm 116:7 hanging in her kitchen, she recalled God's faithfulness.
Rachael suspects no one would look at her circumstances today and claim she has it all together. But as she continues to grow in this new season, she can still declare that God is bountiful and faithful because God prepared her for this journey. She is learning to live by faith rather than sight.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to love and trust you no matter what happens in our lives. Help us to stay faithful to you, as you are faithful to us, in Jesus' name. Amen.
