Light From a Cross
Read John 8:12-19
Later, in one of his talks, Jesus said to the people, "I am the Light of the world. So if you follow me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, for living light will flood your path." John 8:12 (TLB)
Oystein Brinch lives in Oslo, Norway. On Christmas Day, 2020, Oystein was sitting in his friend's living room in Tonsberg, Norway, looking at the old watchtower on top of Fortress Hill. Churches were closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He had not seen his children and grandchildren since March, and he felt lonely and sorry for himself - in spite of being with his friend.
To his surprise, Oystein noticed that on top of the tower a large cross spread its light over all the town. He sensed new feelings within him, as if Jesus was assuring him, "You are never alone as long as I am with you, and I have not and will never forsake you. Darkness will give way to dawn. Wait and see." I rested my eyes on the cross that shined light not only over the town but in his heart as well - and Oystein was comforted.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your light in the world and in our lives. Thank you for your love that never leaves us alone, in Jesus' name. Amen.
