Read Romans 12: 1-8
And so, dear brothers, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice, holy - the kind he can accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you.
As God's messenger, I give each of you God's warning: Be honest in your estimate of yourselves, measuring your value by how much faith God has given you. Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others. Romans 12: 1-5 (TLB)
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous - and how well I know it. Psalm 139: 14 (TLB)
Muyiwa Benralph Olaiya, from the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, was a very reserved child - always the last to talk in a group, make new friends, or start a conversation. Although Muyiwa knew what he wanted to say, he had difficulty expressing himself. He was displeased with God for making him this way. He wanted to be more outspoken, but that was not who he was created to be.
Muyiwa did not appreciate his personality until he found himself leaning toward working in ministry. As a youth pastor, he needed to listen to and consider carefully the stories and situations that people brought to him for counsel. He finally understood the value and the reason for the personality God gave him. It helps him to discern the truth, make accurate deductions, and give wise counsel. Being swift to listen and slow to speak has equipped him well for his calling.
God knows our future and has prepared us for it by giving us the abilities and personalities that best suit our purpose and calling. We may be different from those we admire, but we cannot be who we are not. We can accept, appreciate, and celebrate who we are - unique individuals, intentionally made for God's purpose.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to see ourselves as you see us, and to appreciate who you have made us to be, in Jesus' name. Amen.
