In God's Presence
He went up the mountain and called to him those whom he wanted, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, to be with him, and to be sent out to proclaim the message, and to have authority to cast out demons. So he appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); James son of Zebedee and John the brother of James )to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. Mark 3:13-19 (NRSV)
Enid Adah Nyinomujuni is from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She has recently been spending more time reading God's word and praying, and though she could be more consistent in her practice, every day she grows closer to God than she was the day before. When she reads scripture it becomes God's voice to her, and she learns what God is calling her to do. She prays that as she draws closer to God day by day, she will be better equipped to serve God.
In Mark 3:13-15, Jesus first called the disciples to himself and then sent them out to preach, heal, and minister to those in need. In Jesus' presence, they could receive the anointing and the boldness to serve others. Enid has found that since she has grown closer to God, she is better able to share God's word with others. Without first going to God, we won't have much to give to others. Being in God's presence equips us to go out and service God by caring for God's people.
Enid shows us that people all around the world are called to serve God, and by spending time with Him, we are better prepared. This could easily have been me as I have found the same outcome from spending time in the Word and listening for God to speak.
Prayer: Dear Lord, draw us closer to you each day. Help us to hear your voice in your Word so that we may share your love with others, in Jesus' name, amen.
