In Any Place
Read Matthew 13:1-9
"A farmer was sowing in his fields. As he scattered the seed across the ground, some fell beside a path, and the birds came and ate it. And some fell on rocky soil where there was little depth of earth; the plants sprang up quickly enough in the shallow soil, but the hot sun soon scorched them and they withered and died, for they had so little root. Other seeds fell among the thorns, and the thorns choked out the tender blades. But some fell on good soil, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as he had planted. If you have ears, listen!"
Mathew 13: 4-9 (TLB)
Preach the Word of God urgently at all times, whenever you get the chance, in season and out, when it is convenient and when it is not. Correct and rebuke your people when they need it, encourage them to do right, and all the time be feeding them patiently with God's Word. 2 Timothy 4:2 (TLB)
Maribel Izquierdo lives in Valle del Cauca, Columbia. One day on the bus ride home the only other passenger was a young man with his pet dog. Maribel sat down beside him. He had a nice smile, and he petted his dog, which he called Milagros, meaning miracles. Maribel found that name interesting, and they started a conversation.
As they talked, Maribel felt inspired to share the good news of Christ's love with the young man, but she was reluctant to follow through. After a while, she decided to speak up. When she did, something changed. The words she spoke were not hers, but God's. It was as if a door had opened that allowed Maribel to share the good news of Jesus with this young man.
Maribel has faith that someday this seed she planted will bear fruit. The setting - a public transport vehicle - may not have been what she was expecting. But God inspired her to speak in that moment despite her hesitancy and insecurity. God asks us to be willing to do our part, and God will take care of the rest.
Prayer: Faithful God, help us to move beyond our reluctance and fear and embrace opportunities to share the good news in any place, in Jesus' name. Amen.
