God the Father

What a wonderful God we have - he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us. You can be sure that the more we undergo sufferings for Christ, the more he will shower us with his comfort and encouragement. We are in deeep trouble for bringing you God's comfort and salvation. But in our trouble God has comforted us - and this, too, to help you: to show you from our personal experienece how God will tenderly comfort you when you undergo these same sufferings, He will give you the strength to endure. 2 Corinthians 1: 3-7 (TLB)

For as long as Yuka Akama, from Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, can remember, his father was not present in his life. During his childhood, he struggled and felt sad when they had homework regarding Father's Day or when he heard from friends about how their fathers were the center of their families.

When Yuka was in middle school, a friend invited him to church. Many of his friends and their families also attended the church. Occasionally, Yuka was filled with longing when he saw the fathers there with their families.

In high school, Yuka met a girl who loved God. One day she and Yuka discussed faith. She had also been brought up by her mother, and she too had experienced the difficulties of not knowing her father. She told Yuka that since becoming a Christian, she had come to know God as her father.

Her testimony deeply resounded in Yuka's heart, and tears streamed down his cheeks from the inferiority he felt for being without a father. She then shared with him scriptures that comforted her. That day Yuka understood the spiritual meaning of having a heavenly Father who created him. And Yuka was greatly comforted.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for the comfort of knowing we have life in you. Help us to comfort our brothers and sisters as you have comforted us. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
