God's Way, Not Mine

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible. Hebrews 11:1-3 (NRSV)

George Burke, from Texas, was sharing early morning coffee and donuts with their daughter, the mother of two wonderful, energetic children. They were both going through rough patches in their lives. She had been through a painful divorce. George had recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. They shared the Bible verse from Hebrews above. Then his daughter offered an insight that amazed George. She said, "I think it's awesome that when we are in trouble and can't see any way through, God will surprise us with the solution." Three years have passed since their meeting. She is now married to a fine Christian, and George has experienced only mild symptoms.

George often thinks that he has the solution to life's struggles, and in his prayers he tries to convince God to see it his way. Now George just asks that God's will be done in his life. And god's answer is usually more amazing than George could have imagined. Great is God's faithfulness, wisdom, and power!

Prayer: Dear God, remind us that you know what is best for us. We commit our will to yours, in Jesus' name. Amen.
