God's Helping Ways

This plan of mine is not what you would work out, neither are my thoughts the same as yours! For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours, and my thoughts than yours.

As the rain and snow come down from heaven and stay upon the ground to water the earth, and cause the grain to grow and to produce seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry, so also is my Word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It shall accomplish all I want it to, and prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55: 8-11 (TLB)

Kim Louise Clarke lives in Alberta, Canada. One day a woman in their senior living community hurried down to Kim's office. As the assistant manger, Kim listened as she told Kim about the sudden spray of water coming from under her bathroom sink. Then Kim ran up to the second floor with the woman following. But instead of going into her apartment, Kim entered the one next door. The woman protested that Kim was entering the wrong apartment. Kim said, "I know," and proceeded to enter her neighbor's apartment anyway. Kim knew nothing about plumbing, but what she did know made all the difference.

Earlier that morning Kim had phoned for a plumber, and she knew he was working on a problem in the neighboring apartment. Kim suspected the two problems were related, but more importantly, she knew she could immediately produce a plumber to deal with the woman's situation.

Kim could easily empathize with the woman's confusion. So often we do not see the whole picture. When we give our problems over to God, we may wonder, How will God help? Why is this happening instead of that? We often have our own ideas about how to solve a problem, but God sees the big picture. We can trust God to guide us through.

Prayer: Thank you God, for all the ways you help us. Your ways are better than ours. Help us trust you today, in Jesus' name. Amen.
