God's Constant Watch
Shall I look to the mountain gods for help? No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too! He will never let me stumble, slip or fall. For he is always watching, never sleeping.
Jehovah himself is caring for you! He is your defender, He protects you day and night. He keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. He keeps his eye upon you as you came and go, and always guards you.
Psalm 121: 1-8 (TLB)
As a child, Lisa Stackpole, from Wisconsin, was sometimes plagued by vivid nightmares. Once when she was eight or nine, Lisa awoke terrified though she could not remember what had frightened her. It was still fairly early in the evening, but she had been asleep for some time and was quite disoriented. Lisa stumbled to her bedroom door. When she opened it, she could see down the hall into their living room. Her father was still awake, sitting quietly in his chair reading the newspaper.
Even now, decades later, Lisa remembers the feeling of peace that came over her seeing her father there. He didn't notice her, but his presence reminded Lisa of the many times he had protected and calmed her in the past. Based on this history of faithfulness and love, Lisa knew that she was safe. She quietly went back to bed and quickly fell asleep.
When she thinks back on that moment, it reminds her that our God never sleeps. God is always aware of us. God knows our needs and stands ready to come to our aid. We are never far from God. That is truly a reason to be at peace.
Prayer: Ever-vigilant God, thank you for your constant care and protect. In times of trouble, help us to remember your faithfulness, in Jesus' name. Amen.
