God Never Forsakes Us

Solomon had been kneeling with his hands outstretched toward heaven. As he finished this prayer, he rose from before the altar of Jehovah and cried out this blessing upon all the people of Israel:

"Blessed be the Lord who has fulfilled his promise and given rest to his people Israel; not one word has failed of all the wonderful promises proclaimed by his servant Moses. May the Lord our God be with us as he was our fathers; may he never forsake us. May he give us the desire to do his will in everything, and to obey all the commandments and instructions he has given our ancestors. And may these words of my prayer be constantly before him day and night, so that he helps me and all of Israel in accordance with our daily needs. May people all over the earth know that the Lord is God, and that there is no other god at all. O my people, may you live good and perfect lives before the Lord our God; may you always obey his laws and commandments, just as you are doing today." 1 Kings 8:54-61 (TLB)

Oleg Tservoonoi lives in Tallinn. Estonia. In 2001, a family in their neighborhood suffered a terrible loss. One day a fire broke out in their house. Nobody was at home, but the house was completely destroyed. all the family had left were the clothes they had worn that day. They had no savings, and the house was not insured.

After the fire, the family started to receive help from members of the church where the father served as a pastor. One woman offered her apartment for the family to live in free of charge. Friends started to raise funds for construction of a new house. God blessed and provided the necessary means at every stage of the process, and now the family has a new home.

Oleg has seen God's grace at work in the middle of disaster. God never forsakes us, and God prompts us to open our hearts and help those in trouble. The apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:14, "It was good of you to share in my troubles." The experience of his neighbors taught Oleg how important it is to remember our brothers and sisters in hard times. Let us do our best to love and support one another.

Prayer: Dear God of grace, we thank you for your great love, mercy, and help in all our hardships. May Your name be blessed, in Jesus' name. Amen
