Read 1 Corinthians 12: 4-11
Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, bu it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and through all of us who are his. The Holy Spirit displays God's power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church. 1 Corinthians 12: 4-7 (TLB)
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body, and knit them together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13 (TLB)
You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your Book! Psalm 139: 16 (TLB)
Janet Pierce lives in Tennessee. "I have my own church!" she shouted when she called to tell her parents that she had received an opportunity to play piano for a church full time. It was something she had not thought possible.
Janet's mother began teaching her how to play the piano at a young age. As a child, Janet played in many recitals; but after high school, she stopped playing. It wasn't until she joined the church she is a member of now that she began playing again. Time stood stilled as she played. One day, someone heard her playing and asked if she would play a song during the worship service. Janet agreed. After the service, several people thanked her for playing and for sharing her talent. My talent?
When Janet read the scriptures for today, she is reminded that before we are fully formed, God knows our talents. Our God-given gifts are meant to be used to serve one another and to glorify God. Through the gift of music, Janet is able to praise God and share her faith with others. Thanks be to God for our gifts!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to recognize our gifts and talents so that we may use them to serve one another and glorify your name, in Jesus' name, amen.
