Free From Anxiety
Shall I look to the mountain gods for help? No! My help is from Jehovah who made the mountains! And the heavens too! He will never let me stumble, slip, or fall. For he is always watching, never sleeping.
Jehovah himself is caring for you! He is your defender. He protects you day and night. He keeps you from all evil, and preserves your life. He keeps his eye upon you as you come and go, and always guards you. Psalm 121 (TLB)
Adam Pitman is from North Carolina. When he was in middle school, he went through a three-year period when he was injured several times. While playing basketball, he suffered a concussion, broke his wrist, and sprained his ankle. Every time he healed, he got hurt again. He became anxious even stepping on the court because he was scared something bad was going to happen.
Finally he decided to ask God for help, and God renewed his strength and courage. He also realized how much he had gained from his experiences. Not being able to play for long periods of time helped him to see how much he loved basketball. He also learned how to play the game more safely, which will allow him to be active for a long time to come.
Our struggles and the anxiety they can cause are part of life, but we don't have to go through them alone. When we pray and trust God for help, God will see us through our toughest situations. Most of the time after what Adam was worrying about had passed, he realized that he didn't need to worry because God was looking out for him all the time.
God is looking out for you and me too! Praise God!
Prayer: O God, bring peace to all who are suffering and courage to all who are afraid, in Jesus' name. Amen.
