For My Good

Read Psalm 33:1-11

Let everyone in all the world - men, women, and children - fear the Lord and stand in awe of him. For when he but spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command! And with a breath he can scatter the plans of all the nations who oppose him, but his own plan stands forever. His intentions are the same for every generation. Psalm 33: 8-11 (TLB)

And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.

Romans 8:28 (TLB)

Rolanda T. Pyle, from New York, was raised by her father and her paternal grandmother. Her grandmother stepped in to help her father raise his three children after her mother left. Rolanda remembers crying and wondering why she couldn't have a mother like all of her friends. She felt embarrassed when her classmates asked, "Why does your grandmother walk you to school? Where is your mother?" It wasn't until years after her grandmother died that Rolanda truly appreciated her sacrifice.

When Rolanda became a social worker, she was asked to start a program for grandparents who were raising their grandchildren. The program grew, and Rolanda was asked by the New York City Department for the Aging to head their Grandparent Resource Center. After helping grandparent caregivers across the city, the program eventually became a national model. How did Rolanda know about grandparents raising their grandchildren? Where did she get this passion to assist these families? How did she know how they felt and what they needed? Her family had lived it.

When she was young, Rolanda thought being cared for by her grandmother was the worst thing that could have happened. It turned out to be the best thing! Today's quoted scripture helps Rolanda remember that God is always working for our good.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to trust you through the good and the bad and to remember that you are working for our good, in Jesus' name. Amen.
