Finishing Strong

Read Luke 12: 22-34

Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, "That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life - whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. " Luke 12:22 (NLT)

When Ehi-kowochio Ogwiji, from FCT, Nigeria, was admitted to a university for a five-year course in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, her family was at a low point financially. Her mother spent much of her business capital to pay for expenses. Her father encouraged her to focus on her studies.

Ehi-kowochio circumstances became increasingly difficult, and she became more and more gloomy. In her isolation, she began to write, entering writing competitions hoping to win prize money that did not come. But she was learning to trust God more.

After she had spent years faithfully waiting, God came through for her. She received a one-year scholarship in her third year that covered her tuition. By the end of her fourth year, her academic journey became less cumbersome because God sent sponsors who paid for her books, daily cab fare, and for her research work. They were total strangers; their only connection was their Christian faith. Through this connection, a warm friendship blossomed between them.

Though her studies suffered because of her financial struggles, she was able to finish with high grades. Ehi-kowochio is full of gratitude to God who turned her small beginning into a joyous end.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the ways you provide for us through others. Help us to do your work and provide for others when we can, in Jesus' name. Amen.
